Steve Matthews’ Saratoga selections for Friday, Aug. 18

FIRST: Eighth Commandment logged improved final fraction when a better-than-it-looks sixth in last; more to give. Ten Penny Princess made forward move in last and makes third start of form cycle; very dangerous. Tiz a KItten is speedy, drops and owns fast back numbers; must consider.

SECOND: Saltine Warrior drops after logging swift pace figure in last; forward move predicted. Waco is 3-for-5 on Spa soil but has been sidelined for more than a year; must take the good with the bad. Nonna’s Boy is speedy but is another that’s returning from layoff (four months); demand value.

THIRD: Spin Cycle faces cheaper after speed and fade in last; controlling front-runner with proper ride. Docs Legacy drops after clear-cut victory on Spa sod on July 30; fire sale? Sportscaster owns a win and a third in two starts on Saratoga turf; don’t ignore.

FOURTH: El Dulce endured pace pressure when a determined winner in debut; more to come. Dial One owns speed and is 1-for-1 on grass; logical threat. Joopster was a front-running winner in debut; right in the thick of this.

FIFTH: My Roxy Girl took backward step in last start after strong third in debut; rebounds. Under Suspicion compiled eye-catching work slate for debut; could be the goods. Missbigtimes was third to a repeat winner in first start; must consider.

SIXTH: Lucullan was pace and trip compromised when third in last; additional furlong plays to strength. Lunaire was fourth in Grade 3 stakes at Delaware last time after late-running fourth in key race two starts back; very playable. Don’t Over Look is riding a forward line on the numbers . . . don’t overlook.

SEVENTH: Distorted Admiral notched swift internal numbers when second to an 11-length winner last time; pair of crisp, half-mile works in the interim seals the deal. Malibu Action has logged fast-figured seconds in last two starts; continues trend? Commandeering compiled solid work tab for first start since February; worth long look.

EIGHTH: Luna de Loco consistently earns field’s fastest late-pace figures; good spot. A Fleet Attitude bounced in last after fast-figured win in previous start; rebound threat. Alex the Terror was a swift-numbered, front-running winner in last; easily could take another.

NINTH: My Sweet Stella is fleet-footed and working sharply for first start in 55 days; call based on price potential in ultra-contentious dash. Rumble Doll runs late and could be in the garden spot if fractions get hot and hectic. Louisville First and Miss Katie Mae are two more closers that would be aided if pace meltdown ensues.

TENTH: Holy Week was a tough-trip fourth last time at Finger Lakes and is 1-for-1 at the Spa. Prize Fight drops and makes first dirt start for Mike Maker; very interesting. The Orphan Miracle exits sprints and should be favorably positioned near the front in big field. Gun for Hire was a useful fourth in first start since three-month layoff last out; price will be tempting.
