Steve Matthews’ selections for Wednesday, Oct. 5

Best bet: SAUVIGNON (9)

Best value: ANGEL CHOIR (2)

FIRST: Dancer’s Edge makes peak start of form cycle after notching improved final fraction in last; set for breakthrough. Apollo Eleven is training with a purpose for first start in 10 months; dangerous. There Goes Ben has finished second in last two starts; logical player. Foggy Mountain Cat was a fast-figured third at 18-1 last time; regresses at short ticket today?

SECOND: Angel Choir is speedy, rested and delivered strong effort after similar layoff last year; history repeats. Doukas drops and could be ideally positioned in the stalker’s seat. Saratoga Smoke was a change-of-pace fourth last time; very interesting.

THIRD: Courtmewithcarats tallied swift final fraction when a better-than-it-looks sixth in last; more to give. Cursor fired two, crisp half-mile drills since clear-cut placing in debut; very dangerous. Special Risk gets Lasix after being overmatched in the Spinaway Stakes last time; worth long look.

FOURTH: Tapit Together is firing bullets for first start in 73 days; primed and ready. Chase Motto could play out as the controlling speed in turf debut for Chad Brown. Church Social has logged solid late-pace figures in all three starts; must consider.

FIFTH: Praetereo gets price hike after dominant victory in last; pairs up. David Jacobson entry: Stormin Monarcho owns fast back numbers and mate Transparent gets class relief; potent pairing. Don Dulce logs fast numbers with machine-like consistency; right in the thick of this.

SIXTH: Satin Frost drops to lifetime low and notched 5-furlong bullet work last week. Barbie Stones was second at 90 cents on the dollar last out; short-priced player once again. Palladian Bridge also was second at small odds in last; for chalk lovers only.

SEVENTH: Second Mate arrives for Jersey-based barn after non-stressful conditioning effort last time; forward move predicted. Sly Tom was pace compromised when an even third in last; dangerous. Refer notched swift numbers when winning last two; could easily take another. Frisky Magician owns sprinter’s speed and could prove tough on a soft lead; price will be tempting.

EIGHTH: Greywalls was a pace-pressing winner in last and projects as the main speed on the fence today. Achnaha drops after logging rapid late-pace figure in last; set for best in third start of form cycle. Gotachancetodance is 1-for-1 at the 10-furlong distance; must be factored into the mix.

NINTH: Sauvignon is fresh, gets class relief and logged only win on Belmont sod. I Love You Still is fleet-footed and gets favorable cutback in distance; very playable. Jemmabelle could impact if pace gets fast and furious. Orzo is competitive on best efforts.
