Stony Brook holds off late Bryant rally

Jordan McBride had three goals and Timmy Trenkle added a two as 17th-ranked Stony Brook held off a late rally by Bryant for an 8-7 men's lacrosse win Saturday in Smithfield, R.I.

It was the final non-conference game of the season for the Seawolves (5-3). Tom Compitello had a goal and two assists and Steven Waldeck and Tyler McCabe each added a goal for Stony Brook.

It was the fifth game in 14 days for Stony Brook.

"Playing five games in two weeks is not easy, but I think we played good lacrosse in our five wins," Stony Brook coach Rick Sowell said. "Obviously we can now look forward to one game per week from here on out and that will help us prepare for a tough America East schedule."

Max Weisenberg led Bryant (5-3) with three goals and an assist.

Nassau CC 12, Onondaga 11: Jason Kranmar scored an unassisted goal with 9.5 seconds left to lift Nassau CC (5-1). James Kiernan led Nassau with three goals and Andrew Zoly had 13 saves. Onondaga is 3-2.

Suffolk CC-Brentwood 13, Anne Arundel 12: Ralph Peppe scored his third goal with 1:33 left to win it for Suffolk CC-Brentwood (3-0) in a non-conference game. Rich Carlson had three goals and two assists, Brendan Hayes had two goals and Jason Smith added one goal and three assists.

Dowling 16, NYIT 11: John McClure had seven goals to lead No. 7 Dowling (6-1, 3-1 ECC). Sixth-ranked NYIT drops to 5-2, 4-1.Adelphi 11, St. Anselm 7: Joe Vitale had three goals and two assists, and William Bushell and Danny Balu each added a goal and two assists for Adelphi (2-2, 1-1 Northeast-10). St. Anselm drops to 3-2, 1-1.


C.W. Post 22, Belmont Abbey 7: Nan Mayot and Lauren Spagnoletta scored four goals apiece to lead C.W. Post (6-0) in a non-conference game. Bellmont Abbey is 4-7.

UMBC 10, Stony Brook 9: Amanda Pappas scored with four seconds left in overtime to lead UMBC (7-3, 1-0 America East). Samantha Djaha and Jessica Romano each scored two goals for Stony Brook (2-8, 0-1).
