Late in the second set of his opening match against Brian Dabul tonight at the U.S. Open, second-seeded Roger Federer, chased down a long ball almost to the wall behind the baseline and fired it backwards between his legs. It was a laser that barely cleared the net and landed on the sideline to Dabul's right for a winner.

Federer has done it once before in competition against Novak Djokovic, and he exulted tonight when his passing shot was ruled in. If you didn't see it already, just tune in to ESPN and you're guaranteed to see it from a couple angles again and again. It was a brilliant shot.

Federer went on to win in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2.
