Frank Budd ties world record twice at Garden
Villanova's Frank Budd twice matched the 60-yard dash world-record time of six seconds in the IC4-A indoor track and field championships at Madison Square Garden. Budd, 22, first tied it in an afternoon quarterfinal heat, matching the mark held by Herb Carper and Roscoe Cook. Four hours later in the 60-yard dash final, with 11,972 fans watching, Budd tied the record again. Two stopwatches clocked him at 0.06 and a third had him at 0.05.9, but the majority ruled. Budd, regarded as one of the top sprinters of his time, had set world records in the 100 and 220 in '61.
