Nets move to Long Island

Owner Arthur Brown announced that the ABA's New Jersey Americans would move to Long Island, entering the team's second season. The franchise was initially supposed to be based in New York, but had difficulty finding a suitable venue and played its inaugural season at the Armory in New Jersey. The Americans moved to Long Island Arena in Commack for their second season, were renamed the New York Nets and went 17-61. The turnaround began in 1970, when they moved to the Island Garden in West Hempstead and acquired future Hall of Famer Rick Barry.
