Now that the Mets have traded Francisco Rodriguez and cash to the Brewers for two players to be named later, fantasy players want to know who will close for the Mets? My guess is Bobby Parnell will get the first crack. Jason Isringhausen has experience as a closer, but he could be traded too and does it make sense for the Mets to use him in that role?
The Mets need to find out if Parnell can handle the job mentally. He has pitched very well since coming off the disabled list and has thrown the ball well. He has a 2.92 ERA and a 30/9 K/BB ratio in 24 2/3 innings. In 17 1/3 innings since coming off the DL, Parnell has a 1.56 ERA and a 19/4 K/BB ratio.
I'd add Parnell in all leagues and if you're in dire need of saves and Parnell is gone, add Isringhausen.
As for the Brewers, John Axford is likely to closer with Rodriguez as the setup man. The Brewers will not want to pay K-Rod $17.5 million. He could get some save opportunties, but the Brewers will likely will try and prevent him from having the vesting option kick in. I'd still hold K-Rod in leagues until the situation becomes more clear.
UPDATE: The Brewers say that both Axford and Rodriguez will get the chance to close games.
