Center Marie Malone had a career-high 20 points and added nine rebounds to lead the Hofstra women's basketball team to an 81-68 victory over host Old Dominion Sunday afternoon.
Malone was one of three players in double figures for Hofstra, which got 22 points from forward Shante Evans and 20 points from guard Nicole Capurso. Evans also had 10 rebounds.
After allowing 46 points in the opening half, Hofstra clamped down and held Old Dominion to only 22 points after the break.
The win was Hofstra's fourth straight and improves the Pride's record to 13-3 overall and 5-0 in Colonial Athletic Association play.
Marquette 63, St. John's 55: With a game that had 11 lead changes and five ties, Marquette prevailed at the Garden. Led by junior Shenneika Smith with 13 points, the Red Storm had a chance to rally in the final four minutes of action, even cutting the Golden Eagles lead to four at 59-55 with 57 seconds left. St. John's (11-7, 3-2 Big East) had three players score in double figures with Smith, Eugeneia McPherson and Nadirah McKenith each adding 10. For Marquette (12-6, 3-2), Katherine Plouffe led the way with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
