With thousands of restaurants to choose from in NYC — 24,000, according to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene — narrowing down that spot for a special date or brunch with friends can feel a bit overwhelming. Add to that where to grab a drink or see the sights and the poor brain is in quite a quandary.
Foursquare has attempted to squash the chatter on social media, and in our heads, to a reasonable din with its new Best of Foursquare guides, which launched Monday.
With four categories — best of food, nightlife, things to do and speak-easies — the site lists the best of the best in 30 cities. In addition to New York, foursquare users can find out beloved spots in Boston, Philadelphia, Austin and more.
The Foursquare folks say they looked at some 3 billion check-ins to come up with the guides. Adding credibility is the amount of local places that made the cut, places that only New Yorkers might know about. For user-friendliness, you can search subcategories to target your destination. Under food, for instance, you can navigate through American, Asian, coffee, bakeries, pizza and sandwich places.
Under speak-easies you will find only speak-easies. Because we're not sure users would have voted for that category's inclusion at all.
