There are lots of way to enjoy the Big Apple for free this weekend.
How does the prospect of free drinks sound to you? With clubs and restaurants in NYC charging prohibitive prices for cocktails these days ($16 cosmopolitan, anyone?), how can you not get excited at the offer of a freebie? And not just any freebie, mind you: This one is for three full hours of drink-all-you-want imbibing. What's more, you won't be drinking in silence. Your cold one will be accompanied by music. And it gets better: They're not piping in some static tunes on a PA system; no, there will be a live band performing for your listening pleasure. This party-in-a-package comes to you from DrinkTheDeal, which is hosting the Friday night soiree at Theater Bar (114 Franklin St.; 212-334-3633) from 9 p.m. to midnight.
And speaking of free drinks, I would be remiss not to tell you about the free mojito (my drink du jour, by the way) event at the Sky Room Times Square (330 W. 40th St.) tonight. As the venue's name would imply, the Cuban highball comes with a 360-degree view overlooking the Hudson River and Manhattan skyline. They'll be pouring from 6 to 7 p.m., but you need to RSVP at http://www.overtimenyc.com/events/friday-sky-room/.
Free museum admission
Prefer a more cultural experience? Get into the Museum of Modern Art free tonight, courtesy of MoMA's Free Friday Nights program, sponsored by Target. Just show up between 4 and 8 p.m. and you won't be charged the usual $20 entrance fee. MoMA is at 11 West 53rd St.; 212-708-9400.
Free fun and games
Dave & Buster's Times Square is giving away free $10 play coupons for redemption at its 234 W. 42nd St. location. Get yours here.
Happy weekend, everyone -- and try to keep your money in your wallet.
