Lots of fun and freebies to be had in NYC this weekend -- if you know where to look. I've been scouring around, lurking all over the city to find some gratis entertainment, so put your wallet away and stick with me.
As I sit here, I'm wearing Gap jeans and a Gap belt. True story. Over the years, I've bought my share of Gap clothing, and the retailer has fallen in and out and back into favor with me many times. We have a history together. But one thing I have never, ever bought from them is a taco. That's all about to change now, as the Pico de Gap truck rumbles down Manhattan streets hawking gourmet tacos dreamed up by none other than former Long Island resident and ex-Billy Joel wife Katie Lee. Two of the pocketed goodies will sell for just $1.69, and that includes a beverage. But you can get yours free with proof of a same-day Gap denim purchase. Plus, each order includes a coupon for $20 off the new 1969 denim collection, and some lucky customers will even get a special coupon redeemable for a free pair of 1969 jeans up to $90.00. Just don't be dribbling any salsa on them. It's going to be parked at the Afro-Punk Festival in Commodore Barry Park in Brooklyn all weekend long. Follow the truck on Facebook or Twitter to find out where it's heading next.
Love Wendy Williams? You can get into a taping of The Wendy Williams show absolutely free from Thursday, Sept. 8 through Thursday, Sept. 29. Tapings are at 10 a.m. or 1:45, depending on the day, at NYC Studio (433 West 53rd Street, between 9th and 10th Ave.) Some of the dates are already filled up, so move quickly. Sign up here.
Head over to the Brooklyn Bowl (61 Wythe Avenue, Brooklyn) Friday night for a concert by Rubblebucket w/ Janka Nabay and the Bubu Gang & Diamond Doves. If you get there before 7 p.m., you won't pay a dime. Admission after that is $5, still a deal, but wouldn't you rather sink that fiver into some fried chicken?
If you know of any free stuff coming down the pike, drop me an email and I'll share your tips with other readers.
