Got a lot of ambition for a fun weekend but not a lot of cash in your pocket? No worries -- we found some free and almost-free things for you to do in the city.
The Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film, TV & New Media will hold a free screening of Rise of the Planet of the Apes at tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the Cantor Film Center (Theater 200), 36 East 8th St.
Want a new look? Head to Sephora (see below for dates and locations) for a free Givenchy "Mister Right" makeover. You'll even get a surprise parting gift to take home. As you might imagine, lots of women will be clamoring for a spot, so it would probably be best to phone or stop in to schedule an appointment in advance, though they will take walk-ins if they're available. Dates: Oct. 20, Sephora Times Square at 42nd. St. and 7th Ave.; Oct. 21, Sephora at 86th St. and Lexington Ave.; Oct. 22, Sephora Union Square. Details at Sephora.com.
We're not entirely certain what this event is, but we know it's free. So if you're looking for something to do tonight after work, head to Pier 54 Bloomfield Street at 7 p.m. for some free music and who knows what else. The event, which is billed as a "Carmelo Anthony related event featuring numerous surprises" promises "to be a celebrity filled event with quite possibly all sorts of free stuff and performances by who knows in addition to who is already on the bill. This is themed around Carmelo Anthony, and our own Clint Zer0 is speculating that Nas, Jay-Z, or Jadakiss could be performing. You'd better RSVP quickly though."
Halloween cruise with open bar
Sail the high seas (O.K., the Hudson River) in full "Eyes Wide Shut"-type regalia for a high-end masquerade ball of epic proportions for less than half price. While the $95 price tag is not a mere bag of shells, you will get an awful lot of luxury for those shells: Join a DJ and 1,200 well-dressed partyers aboard the Cornucopia Majesty, the biggest yacht on the east coast, for a 3-hour party that includes 3 hours of full open bar. Plus, you'll get access to VIP Bottle Service at tables on the Somerton Deck (each table gets 3 bottles of vodka and 3 bottles of Champagne in addition to the open bar). The only catch? You must be 21 or over to attend. This ship sails from Pier 81 (West 41 St. and West Side Hwy.) on Friday Oct. 28. Buy your half-price tickets before they sell out.
