Twenty yards from Calabas Reef along the West Coast of Bonaire you can find the Divi Flamingo Beach Resort & Casino. At the resort, guests can experience coral spawning, a biological phenomenon that only occurs a few times a year. The best opportunity for coral spawning takes place four to eight nights after a full moon. So from Sept. 25-26, Oct. 2-3, Oct. 23-24 and Oct. 30-31 the Divi Flamingo Beach Resort has organized travel and dive packages for guests.
The package, priced from $965 per person, includes seven nights accomodation at Divi Flamingo, daily breakfast buffets, daily two-tank boat dives, unlimited shore diving, one free night boat dive during spawning, one night dive on Calabas house reef with certified instructors and pre-dive lectures coral spawning experts Denise and Ruud Janssen.
Those taking part in the dive can expect to watch coral reproduction of the Boulder Star, Brain, Great Star, Sea Rod and Breaching corals. Little brittle stars, cucumbers, sea urchins, sponges, fireworms and feather duster worms also are expected to spawn.
