It's possible to go to Italy, shop at international designer stores, go on tours of the country and not go completely broke!
Shop Around Tours, the only North American tour company specializing in trips to designer outlets in Italy, is celebrating its 10th birthday with a six-night shopping tour at a special price.
The trip begins this November and departs from New York. The excursions to the outlet mall won't include a Macy's, Aeropostale or a Foot Locker. Instead, travelers will get to shop for well-known brands like Gucci, Armani, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana and more.
The trip also includes a tour of factories specializing in silk and leather used by top designers, as well as wine tasting. The cost is $2,395 per person, which includes round-trip airfare, first-class accommodations, ground transportation and meals.
The idea for this type of tour began with an idea Deborah Mayer had about combining her love for bargain-hunting and her many years of experience as a travel professional.
"From outlet malls to unmarked warehouses, I have hunted down the best deals throughout the world and share my love of discounted shopping and travel with others," Mayer said. "My experience shows in my credit card bill statements and my ability to speak 'sale' in a dozen different languages."
As the president and creator of Shop Around Tours, Mayer believes that travelers will be able to experience Italy and enjoy savings at designer locations, some of which Americans may have not heard of.
