Hamptons: Fourth of July weekend fun

Here are four fun and fabulous fetes leading up to the Fourth of July:

1. Anyone looking to pass on the whole multiplex thing can catch a movie projected on a barn wall at the Silas Marder Gallery (120 Snake Hollow Rd., Bridgehampton, 631-702-2306, Just show up with a beach chair, blanket and picnic, as the showings are free -- all starting at dark (but never before 9 p.m.) Fridays until Aug. 26. This Friday, the Oscar-winning, Marlon Brando-starring masterpiece "On the Waterfront" will be shown.

2. With its clear view of Fort Pond Bay, Navy Beach (16 Navy Rd., Montauk, 631-668-6868, will host a series of outdoor "Sunset Sets" for the Fourth of July weekend that go from 5-7 p.m. nightly for no cover. Saturday features rock and roll from East Hampton's Telly Karoussos, while Sunday offers a rock performance with blues-driven Joe Delia and Thieves. And -- being that this is an extended holiday weekend -- Commack's Nancy Atlas will perform her Southern-tinged brand of folk music at a rare Monday session as well.

3. One of the highest-ranked professional polo players in the world, Nicolas "Nic" Roldan, is also a successful model -- and he'll be lending his star power as host to The Second Annual Charity Polo Classic in Bridgehampton from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. The event will include a silent auction, food and cocktails, with all proceeds benefiting Rally for Kids with Cancer, an organization that gathers charitable support for the care, treatment and research for children with cancer. 4. The Gretchen Scott Designs store (46 Jobs Lane, Southampton, 631-377-3868, is hosting a benefit for the Last Chance Animal Rescue of Southampton 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Last Chance rescues dogs from shelters that euthanize unwanted animals. In addition to the wine, beer and hors d'oeuvres (as well as a 50 percent discount on one clothing item purchase), a few dogs will be on-site for adoption, along with volunteers to assist in adoption applications.
