The call came into the Jewish Center of the Hamptons in East Hampton. Could they recommend a good Kosher caterer? For whom? Ivanka Trump Kushner.
London Jewelers' Udell family was throwing a cocktail party to introduce her jewelry line in their store. Ivanka had converted to Judaism to marry Orthodox Observer Publisher Jared Kushner. Appropriate food was to be served.
Ivanka seems to always do things appropriately. A former fashion model, who graduated Summa Cum Laude from Wharton, she became Vice President of Real Estate Development and Acquisition of the Trump organization and a boardroom adviser on “The Apprentice.” Three years ago she started the Ivanka Trump Collection.
The jewels, fashion forward and lush, exude an estate yet modern feel. On her wrist, Ivanka sported a bold bracelet of large rectangular rock crystals, set in 18 carat rose gold with diamond connectors.
In the London Jewelers case was the matching necklace, ($38,000). “These are more of the summer pieces,” Ivanka told us. “But there are also diamond-oriented pieces that are very light, very delicate. So there is a mixture to choose from.” Also on display: a dramatic 18 carat bangle of mother of pearl and rock crystal , signature tassel pendants, a very significant black diamond necklace, diamonds, and more diamonds.
“Our clientele is across the board,” said National Sales Manager Tamar Nahabedian. “From working women in their twenties who look up to Ivanka as a roll model, can self purchase and are starting to collect, all the way up to the older women who are drawn to luxury and fine jewelry .”
“We opened our boutique on Madison Ave,” Ivanka said. “So this is a second phase of the company: rolling out our top forty (designs) across the United States to all high end stores; like London Jewelers , like some of the leading department stores. I’m very excited about that.”
As happy as she was to discuss her jewelry line, Ivanka dodged personal questions. Who designed the engagement ring? She smiled deftly, sweetly and politely. But, she didn’t say.
And the caterer? East Hampton Eatery Nick and Toni’s prepared a selection that included fresh farm vegetables on a skewer, smoked salmon, tuna tartare and humous on a delicate pita-like wafer. “It’s Kosher Respectful,” they told us. For a respectful new wife.
