New rules for first-time passports

Beginning this month, citizens who apply for a first-time passport and intend to use a certified birth certificate as their primary evidence of U.S. citizenship must be sure the document lists the full names of the applicant's parent(s). Birth certificates missing this information are no longer acceptable as evidence of citizenship. Those who don't have a birth certificate that meets these standards will have to supply another form of primary or secondary documentation with their application. Details at
