Has a taste of Montauk breezed into Long Beach? Wander around the 143-room Allegria Hotel -- now open along the city's boardwalk- and you might think so.

Easy, beachy elegance abounds at the luxury oceanfront hotel, named for developer Allen Rosenberg's mother. Guest rooms are done up in soothing shades of white, cream and beige. L'Onda Lounge, an airy cocktail area, invites patrons to sit around a circular bar and gaze out at the surf and sand - or linger in cozy seating near the double-sided fireplace. Allegria's restaurant, Atlantica, serves organic fare and has its own wine room. The 200-seat ballroom has oh-so-chic lighting -- oversize white drum shades dripping with long strands of crystal beads.

Standard deluxe rooms start at $199 a night - those with ocean views run $249 and up. In all you'll find linen-clad walls, hardwood floors, flat-screen LCD televisions and mini-refrigerators (BYOB encouraged). Suites, which range from $499 to $1,099 a night, have living and dining areas with wet bars.

Bedroom and bath areas are separated with cleverly designed closets that have sliding doors on both sides. L'Onda Lounge has a communal table that seats 24 - ideal for, say, a bachelorette party. Meanwhile, Atlantica's glass-walled private dining room has a gorgeous salvaged wood table for entertaining up to 22 people. Both venues are open to the public, as well as hotel guests.

Elsewhere, guests have private entrance to the beach through the ground floor of the seven-story building. In warmer months, expect cabanas, lounge chairs, even a beach concierge delivering drinks, sunscreen and munchies.

Perhaps the Allegria's most inventive touches are still to come.

Its rooftop will boast a heated guests-only infinity pool flanked by three cabanas and Jacks on the Rocks, a bar and light fare eatery that affords visitors a clear view of the Manhattan skyline. Also under construction: A 10,000-square-foot Joseph Christopher spa. All are slated to open in March. More details at 516-889-1300 or
