It sure doesn't look like Westchester, this wide, sandy stretch of the Sound Shore. To the north of the beach a well-kept wooden boardwalk leads to Rye Playland. A short walk south takes you to a giant thatched-roof seafood restaurant and singles salt lick called Pier Restaurant and Tiki Bar.
The scent of tanning lotion will be in the air as you experiment with such libations as the Bellini Tiki (vodka, peach schnapps, pineapple juice and Champagne) and a sugary shipwreck called "Life's a Beach!" (Jack Daniel's whiskey, sour mix, Tiki red sangria, topped with Sprite and garnished with cherry, lemon and an edible gummy candy fish). The food is more or less what you find at oceanside resorts from Cape Cod to the Florida Keys: shellfish, salads, lobster rolls, grilled fish, and anything they can shove into the deep fryer.
Be advised that the wait staff, some of whom have yet to take their drivers' test, can be dithering, and often AWOL. -Bryan Miller
