There’s no question that getting something romantic done on Valentine’s Day proper is extremely nice, but with the 2012 holiday falling on a Tuesday, many Long Islanders may have to schedule a special getaway before or following Feb. 14.

For those who would like to travel a bit to celebrate their better half (but need a flexible date), there are a number of resorts and inns in the nearby northeast that could make that a reasonable reality:
