U.S. State Dept.: Defer Japan travel plans

As expected, the U.S. State Department is strongly recommending U.S. citizens defer travel plans to Japan as the country struggles to deal with the effects of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. Several airlines are waiving some fees or, in some cases, offering refunds to travelers who wish to modify their plans. Delta, for example, is allowing passengers scheduled to fly into Tokyo through March 31 to cancel or edit their itineraries. Most tour operators have canceled March departures and are monitoring developments to gauge the impact on future trips.
