A Westchester County police officer was injured Sunday morning when his cruiser was rear-ended during a crash investigation on the Hutchinson River Parkway near Mamaroneck.

County police said the officer, Det. David Whitney, was responding to an incident involving three vehicles on the northbound side of the parkway at 8:14 a.m. when another vehicle lost control and struck his police cruiser, according to county police.

Whitney was treated for injuries at an area hospital. At least one person from the first accident, which occurred shortly before 8 a.m., was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, county police said.

Police have not charged the driver whose vehicle struck the police cruiser, but said an investigation is continuing.
