Sandy Hook Advisory Commission works on recommendations for Gov. Malloy

The commission is expected to make recommendations to the governor on school safety, mental health issues and gun violence prevention by next month.

HARTFORD - The Sandy Hook Advisory Commission is working on safety recommendations to present to Gov. Dannel Malloy following a hearing this week.

The group heard from experts, including several architects, an infrastructure protection official, a retired FBI agency and the head of a national school safety group. Some members of skeptical about the need for expensive security measures at schools when mass shootings are so infrequent.

The commission is expected to make recommendations to the governor on school safety, mental health issues and gun violence prevention by next month. Meanwhile, Vice President Joe Biden will be visiting Danbury next week to speak at a conference on gun violence.
