Jamesport is a quaint hamlet situated at the west end of the tranquil North Fork.
Farms, garden centers and antique shops, as well as the Jamesport Vineyard, dot Route 25 (Main Road), which runs through the hamlet to points farther east.
The Jamesport Country Store, in a brick building built in 1921, displays eye-catching merchandise out front, such as an old-fashioned gas pump and wicker furniture. The Jamesport Country Kitchen is popular because of its cuisine, made with local ingredients, and Cliff's Elbow Room is known for its marinated steaks and seafood dishes.
Residents and tourists can visit vineyards for some wine-tasting and for other events, such as weekend concerts during the summer. Harbes Family Farm, located in Jamesport and Mattituck to the east, also hosts concerts and fall festivals.
"There are so many things going on, you can't get to it all," said Valerie Goode, a resident and owner of Colony Realty.
The area is a prime spot for boating, fishing and clamming. There is a boat ramp on Peconic Bay Boulevard in South Jamesport, and as for the best spots to clam - well, that's a secret. "No one ever tells," Goode said. The Jamesport Center offers a deli, pizzeria and other conveniences, and supermarkets are in Mattituck and Riverhead. Jamesport's neighborhoods have a rural feel and feature ranches, capes, Colonials, Victorians, contemporaries and postmodern homes that sit on at least a third of an acre. Goode said Jamesport attracts buyers who are in the market for a primary residence and those looking for a second home. Residents also have access to Riverhead Town beaches.
