Suffolk police said a man is dead after suffering an apparent medical incident while driving and crashing his vehicle into a guardrail in Holbrook early Friday. Credit: Getty Images / iStockphoto / kali9

A man is dead after suffering an apparent medical episode and crashing into a guardrail in Holbrook early Friday, Suffolk County police said.

Around 12:53 a.m., the man was driving a 2005 Mercury Sable on the North Service Road of the Long Island Expressway when the medical episode occurred, according to police.

The car then left the roadway and struck a guardrail near the intersection with Laurel Street.

The man was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The Mercury was impounded for a safety check.
