Some areas of Oceanside have had a face-lift, and a few new homes are sprouting. Along Long Beach Road are new lighting, brick walks and storefront facades. An old hotel site is now a parking area with brick walks, Victorian lampposts, plantings, benches and fencing. The Long Island Rail Road station was recently overhauled, and a new soccer field was added to Oceanside Park.
Residential areas and a few streets along canals feature split-levels, ranches, high-ranches, capes, Victorians and Tudors, generally from the low $300,000s to $900,000, said Hal Knopf, who has a realty office here.
Four high-end Victorians with wrap-around porches are being built in the small Renaissance at Evergreen development.
Theresa Gardens, a complex of 22 affordable two-bedroom units for seniors, is almost complete. Age and income restrictions apply with priority to Oceanside and Hempstead town residents. For more information call the Town of Hempstead Housing Authority at 516-485-9666.
