LIers will vote on school boards and budgets next week. Here's what's at stake.

Total school spending on LI is projected to be nearly $16.9 billion in 2026-27, if voters approve the districts' proposed budgets next week. Almost 60% would come from property taxes.

Safe Boating Week Event

May16

The nationwide event is designed to raise boating safety awareness and will include Life Jacket, Flare, and Fire Extinguisher Demonstrations. Awareness of the different types of Life Jackets, Distress Signals and new Fire Extinguisher regulations are important to everyone on the water. Attendees can even bring their own Life Jacket for a group photo. Inspectors will also be available for attendees with boats at Brick Cove or on trailers to receive a free vessel safety check. Boaters can confirm (with no risk) that they meet all the requirements for on board safety equipment and receive suggestions for items that are not required but probably should be. For boats that are not at Brick Cove Marina, owners can schedule an inspection at other times and locations.
