Community Profile

In the small village of Williston Park, almost 300 businesses, including restaurants and professional services, can be found along Willis and Hillside avenues, where a Chase bank will soon replace a dilapidated building at the intersection.

"Camaraderie is exhibited here on a daily basis," said Village Clerk Walter Maloney.

The village, he said, recently received funds to improve infrastructure such as roads, the water district and recreational areas that will be enhanced to accommodate people with disabilities.

Capes and Colonials dominate, though other styles can be found. Prices start at about $455,000, said Evelyn Atanas, owner of Atanas Realty Corp. in Williston Park, noting some new four- to five-bedroom Colonials range from the high $700,000s to the $900,000s. Due to density, there's little land left to build on, but Maloney said there's been a "tremendous amount of rehabbing."
