A drunken driver “threatened the lives of officers” who stopped him on suspicion of crashing into a 7-Eleven storefront, taking off and then colliding with another vehicle, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

Andrew Malitzis, 61, of Old Bethpage, was charged Friday with driving while ability impaired, criminal mischief, menacing, making a terroristic threat and vehicle and traffic law violations, the department wrote in a news release.

How Malitzis threatened officers wasn't disclosed.

The first crash was into the convenience store. That driver took off. Shortly after that at about 5:15 a.m. was the collision in Farmingdale with the other vehicle, being driven by a 46-year-old woman.

Malitzis had “watery eyes, an odor of an alcohol emanating from his breath and to be unsteady on his feet resulting in positive results on the Standardized Field Sobriety Test,” the police release said.

“During the investigation the defendant threatened the lives of officers at scene. Defendant Malitzis was placed under arrest,” the release said.

According to court records, Malitzis was arraigned Saturday morning at First District Court in Mineola where he pleaded not guilty and was released with non-monetary conditions.

Malitzis couldn't be reached for comment and the court records did not list a defense attorney.
