Nassau commish reports minor Belmont bender

It was a bad day at the track last month for Nassau’s new police commissioner Thomas Dale, a former New York City top chief.

Amid the festivities and hoopla surrounding the Belmont Stakes on June 9, Dale got into a fender-bender in his county-issued SUV.

According to a subsequent police report on the incident, Dale backed into a parked car and dented his back fender. Although the report did not identify the car he hit, which was not damaged, a witness at the scene told Newsday it was a New York City police car.

The cost of fixing Dale’s car was estimated to be under $1,000. No tickets were issued.
