Town sets vote on $15M bond for open space
At a special meeting of the Huntington Town board Tuesday morning, officials unanimously approved two measures.
The first resolution places an item on the November ballot that calls for renewing a $15-million open-space bond, first approved in 1998, that is set to expire this year. The bond, which would carry no tax increase, would be used for acquisition of open space, park improvements, neighborhood enhancements, and "green" initiatives.
The second resolution scheduled a public hearing for Tuesday, Sept. 23 to consider the Draft Horizons 2020 Comprehensive Plan Update, a draft version of what will become a road map for future development.
A draft of the plan was released last week and the community has been asked to provide input.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at town hall, 100 Main St.
Town spokeswoman Fran Evans said a special meeting was scheduled because items that are to be placed on the Nov. 4 ballot must be made public at least 60 days before the vote. The town's next regularly scheduled board meeting is Sept. 9.
Evans also said a meeting had to be officially scheduled for a public discussion of the comprehensive plan, so officials decided to vote on both measures at the special meeting.
