William Floyd graduation includes recognition of top teachers

Third-grade schoolteacher Michelle Montalbano was shocked and proud when she received a letter inviting her to be an honorary guest Saturday at  the William Floyd High School graduation.

She was even more excited as she watched the students walk to the podium to collect their diplomas. She had not seen some of them in more than 10 years.

The star of Floral Park Memorial High School’s prom matched a black jacket with a Batman T-shirt, and sported sneakers with red shoe laces and soles that lit up when he walked.

When Eric Johnson was a senior at Northport High School in 2013, he asked his girlfriend Veronika Potylitsina, a junior, to the prom. But her parents said no, wanting to preserve the customary rite of passage for her senior year.

Turns out it was worth the wait. Johnson, 18, a student at Alfred State University, returned home from college mid-May and began his prom preparation.

Roundup: Amityville makes website more 'user-friendly'

A revamped Village of Amityville website will go live next week, offering a nimbler, more interactive replacement for the current site, trustee Jessica Bernius said.

Huntington film series to begin with Disney's 'Frozen'

For the 11th year in a row, the Town of Huntington plans to host its "Movies on the Lawn" program.

The family-friendly fun starts on Monday with Walt Disney's "Frozen" at Heckscher Park and continues through August at various locations.
