A Jason Taylor timeline

1997 Drafted 73rd overall by the Dolphins after a college career at Akron that included 21 sacks and eight forced fumbles. Was an All-MAC selection. Records five sacks in rookie season.

2000 Taylor notches 14 1/2 sacks and 37 unassisted tackles in his breakout season, earning his first Pro Bowl selection.

2003 Taylor sacks Bills quarterback Drew Bledsoe to become the Dolphins' all-time sack leader with 68, passing Bill Stanfill.

2006 Taylor becomes the third Dolphin to be named NFL Defensive Player of the Year, after recording 13 1/2 sacks with 2 interceptions and nine forced fumbles.

Feb. 19, 2008 Taylor is announced as a contestant on Dancing with the Stars.

March 1, 2008 Dolphins executive Bill Parcells tells reporters "The only way Jason Taylor doesn't play for the Dolphins in 2008 is if he retires. The team is not going to trade him."

April 2008 A growing rift between Taylor and Parcells, centered on Parcells reportedly ignoring Taylor during a visit between Dancing with the Stars appearances, emerges in the media. Parcells later said he couldn't hear Taylor because he didn't have his hearing aids in.

April 26, 2008 Dolphins shop Jason Taylor on draft day, interesting a number of teams who were ultimately scared away by the asking price. Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio remarked: "They had a certain price in mind, and nobody in the league was interested in that price. They like the player, and they're going to keep him."

May 20, 2008 After Taylor finishes second to figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi on Dancing With the Stars, he writes in a blog for ESPN the Magazine's Web site that he wouldn't be attending any of the Dolphins' workouts later that week. Instead, he appeared on a slew of talk shows, including Live with Regis and Kelly.

May 22, 2008 Dolphins coach Tony Sparano says Taylor will not be attending any summer workouts or training camp in July. Both sides are mum after the announcement, with Sparano adding: "We need to discuss the current players on our team right now that have been busting their butt for nine weeks here."

June 5, 2008 Parcells says he wants Taylor on the team, saying, "Why wouldn't you want one of the very best players?" and calling the reported rift a "fabrication."

July 20, 2008 After Washington Redskins defensive end Phillip Daniels is ruled out for the season, Taylor is traded to Washington.

December 28, 2008 After an injury-riddled season, Taylor records one tackle in Washington's final game, at San Francisco. He totals a career-low 29 tackles and just 3.5 sacks in 13 games.

March 2, 2009 Washington Redskins cut Jason Taylor.
