2008 All-Long Island Boys Tennis

A look at Long Island's best boys tennis players from the 2008 season.

SINGLES

Daniel Kreyman
Long Beach | Junior

After a rotator cuff injury slowed him down last year, Kreyman came back strong this year by winning the Nassau singles title and placing second in the state championship en route to being named the Player of the Year. The 17-year-old was 28-1 for the season and has a 50-8 career record.

Brendan Ruddock
Connetquot | Junior

Ruddock won the Suffolk singles title and placed fifth in the state championship. The 16-year-old received an unfavorable draw and lost to the state champion before going on to place first in the consolation round. Ruddock concluded the year 20-1.

Brian Wee
Syosset | Senior

Wee placed second in the Nassau singles tournament before losing in the opening round of the state championship. Wee, who will attend MIT in the fall, went 17-5 for the season and finished his career 34-18.

DOUBLES

Hans Ma and Josh Kogel | Syosset

Ma and Kogel were second in the counties, but turned it on in the state championships. The Nassau duo dispatched the Suffolk doubles champions in the state semifinal before losing in straight sets to the top-seeded team in the final. Ma, who will play for Johns Hopkins, has a combined career record of 47-11 in doubles and singles while Kogel, who will attend Tulane, has a 44-19 career record in doubles and singles.

Andrew Won and Brett Byron | Half Hollow Hills East

Won and Byron won the Suffolk doubles title before losing in the state semifinal. Won, who went 16-1 as a singles player and will attend Bowdoin College, notched his fourth consecutive doubles title (first with Byron). Byron, who will be a senior co-captain next year, went 26-3 in singles.

Jason Liao and Matt Lam | Jericho

Liao and Lam won the Nassau doubles titles and lost in state semifinal, finishing 8-1 as a pair. Liao missed five matches this season due to an injured right finger. The 18-year-old will attend Duke in the fall. Lam, a freshman, went 10-2 in singles.

COACH OF THE YEAR
Paul Poschmann | Cold Spring Harbor

Under the tutelage of Poschmann, Cold Spring Harbor had its best season, defeating Syosset, 5-2, for the Nassau title and Half Hollow Hills East, 5-2, for the L.I. championship. Poschmann has been coaching CSH for 22 years, but the Seahawks have only been eligible for postseason after moving from Conference II to Conference I in 2001.
