Forward Chris McCarthy, 22, who scored 18 goals and 42 points in 38 games for the University of Vermont this season, has agreed to terms on a contract.

But the Rangers are at the maximum 50 players under contract, so he will report to Hartford as...

Practice Report: Line juggling, McDonagh rests; JMoore closer

It may well be that the lines employed in the 5-0 dusting of the Oilers are kaput. Here’s what Alain Vigneault was tinkering with at practice:

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash; Richards-DMoore-St. Louis;  Zuccarello-Brassard-Pouliot; Dorsett-Boyle-Carcillo. "It's just me being me," he said. "I just wanted to take a look at Hags...sorta with Kreider's speed out there. I'm going to sleep...

Vigneault since September visit to Vancouver: "Night and day"

VANCOUVER---Back in late September, when the Rangers were here for a pre-season game---and were shelled----Alain Vigneault, who had coached here for seven seasons, had not cut the ties.

Six months later, it appears he has.

Torts on comparing himself and AV; St. Louis and Callahan

In his post-practice briefing here in Vancouver today, former Rangers coach John Tortorella said he hasn;t really paid much attention to his former team, given the time difference and with the different conference but offered opinions on comparisons to himself and Vigneault, who is having a more successful season, the Rangers, Martin St. Louis and Ryan Callahan....

Easy choice: Dominic Moore for Masterton Trophy

The numbers don't always tell the story.

The 596 NHL games, 73 goals, 130 assists, the 14 minutes a game don't give you the complete picture of Dominic Moore, 33, who has been nominated for the Masterton Trophy by the New York chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association.

St. Louis: In "uncharted territory"

In today's Insider, I wrote about Martin St. Louis' struggles and approach, and here's some more of his thoughts from a heartfelt interview with the travelling writers yesterday in Calgary:

“I haven’t gone through this in a long time so it’s a little bit of unchartered territory, meaning I haven’t experienced that type of adversity in a long time. The good thing is the team’s...

(Credit: Mike Stobe)

Jumping on a flight to Edmonton after practice at Max Bell Arena in Calgary, so if you didn't see this on Twitter, three key updates:

Coach Alain Vigneault decided to switch Martin St. Louis back to the right side, and reunite him with center Brad Richards and left wing Carl Hagelin. "He's more comfortable on the right side," Vigneault said. St. Louis did not generate enough on the left side...

The Wrap: Rangers fall 4-3 in Calgary to start road trip

Hands up if you saw this coming.

If you read my blogs and early story Friday, the warning signs were there. Calgary was playing well, winning six of their last 10 at home, and the Rangers, who have had their stumbles in winnable games this season, had to play their A-game, as they had during the five-game winning streak.

Didn’t happen, from the goal out.

After Friday’s morning...

NJ's Kenny Agostino, ex-NYR fan, dressing for Calgary tonight

Don’t really write much in this space about other team’s prospects, but we veered off today to speak with Kenny Agostino, a familiar name in metro area hockey and at Yale, who is one of the Calgary Flames new wave of youngsters, along with Sean Monahan and Joe Colborne.
