Hat trick? Please.

Tomas Hertl already had three goals with the San Jose Sharks leading the Rangers 7-2 with about eight minutes left in the third period Tuesday, but he was just getting started.

The 19-year-old center, playing in just his third NHL game, capped his night off with a through-the-legs goal that went top-shelf over Martin Biron's stick hand. With the score, he became the...

Yes, it's three games into a season with a new coaching staff and a new system.

Struggles were expected. Three of the top six forwards missed training camp and one won't be back until the home opener, around Halloween.

The schedule is ghastly due to the renovations at the Garden. Nine roadies to begin.

And now there's a question about Rick Nash's health after the high hit from...

Following a disciplinary hearing, Sharks defenseman Brad Stuart was suspended three games for a head shot that forced Rangers star winger Rick Nash out of Tuesday's game after the first period.

The league's senior vice president of public safety, Brendan Shanahan, said Stuart unnecessarily extended his shoulder to create contact with Nash near the boards at 2:32 of the first period. Stuart...

SAN JOSE -- Rick Nash walked out of SAP Center late Tuesday with a headache that had worsened as the game went on, and was worried about a possible concussion. The rest of the Rangers walked out humbled and sullen after a pathetic effort in a 9-2 trouncing by the Sharks in the third game of the season.

Nash was caught by a high elbow from defenseman Brad Stuart just 2:32 into the game...

The Rangers third goal will make all the highlight, or lowlight, films, Ryan McDonagh's  180-foot shorthanded clearing pass/bank shot off the right boards that Kings netminder Jonathan Quick totally misplayed at 4:39 of the third period here in Staples Center.  It was a moment that left 18,118 fans and players and media stunned, scratching noggins and looking for a replay.

“I didn’t...

"Good to have our captain back," said Alain Vigneault, after Ryan Callahan delivered a check to Robyn Regehr on his first shift after shoulder surgery in May. "It was my first time seeing him live, being with him as a coach; he brings a lot to the table, poise with the puck, competitive nature when he doesn’t have it, finishes every check. For a player who’s not big in size, he certainly...

One goal, falling away from the net, showed skill. Another, with a pass on a 2 on 1 that deflected under Jonathan Quick, was fortunate.

Here's Brad Richards, after his second game on left wing:

"Some nights you get a lot of chances and they don’t go in, some nights you get one or two and they both go in. It was bound to happen eventually, our line had a lot of good chances, we were...

Finally, Game 2 at the Staples Center tonight.

Captain Ryan Callahan, out since May following labrum surgery on his left shoulder, pulls on the No. 24 jersey. Expect to see him on the third line, power play and penalty kill.

"I’ve made predictions before that I was going to ease somebody in, and once the game was there and if the guy looks good….", Vigneault said. "In...

J.T. Miller assigned to AHL

LOS ANGELES---Back to the Pack.

J.T. Miller, who along with Jesper Fast, were two of the youngsters who made the Rangers opening day roster, has been sent to Hartford.

A team spokesman said this morning here in California that the club wanted Miller to get more ice time.

With captain Ryan Callahan (shoulder) returning on Monday, presumably that wasn't going to happen in the NHL.

Miller,...

Not one to remember, not one that signals doom for the Blueshirts either.

Can't leap to judgement without full roster.  A healthy Callahan and Hagelin would've helped.

Still, the Rangers were sloppy, not getting enough of a forecheck to really force Mike Smith to work (24 shots) and Radim Vrbata's hat trick was deadly.

The good moments:

A power play goal from Marc Staal...
