He remains the Raptors' all-time scoring leader with 9,420 points and their all-time blocks leader with 415. Carter and cousin Tracy McGrady teamed up to lead the Raptors to the NBA playoffs for the first time in the 1999-2000 season, and after McGrady left for the Orlando Magic, Carter helped the Raptors win their first NBA playoff series in the 2000-01 season against the New York Knicks and to take them back to the playoffs in the 2001-02 season. The pressure of carrying an NBA franchise for all of Canada began to wear on Carter, and rumors that he was unhappy with the direction the Raptors franchise was heading began to circulate. On Dec. 17, 2004, Carter was traded to the New Jersey Nets for Alonzo Mourning, Aaron Williams, Eric Williams and two first-round draft picks. In July 2007, Carter signed a new four-year contract with the Nets that is worth more than $60 million.
