"Phil" Hughes (born June 24, 1986 in Mission Viejo, California) is a professional baseball right-handed starting pitcher, who was the first-round pick of the New York Yankees in the 2004 Major League Baseball Draft. Nicknamed "Phil Franchise" because of his promise as one of the bookends in the front of the Yankees' rotation.
