In a delicious first introduction to theater, kids can watch Pinkalicious — the pink-loving, imaginative girl from the popular book series and television show — come to life in her off Broadway and touring show. She and her cast of friends and family will perform at the Patchogue Theatre on March 2.

The production, based on the series of children’s books written and illustrated by Victoria Kahn, is filled with whimsical, thought-provoking twists and turns. At first, Pinkalicious, who can never get enough pink, eats too many pink cupcakes and turns pink. She’s thrilled, so she asks the kids in the audience if she should eat one more. At this point, kids often shout, “Don’t do it, Pinkalicious!” She eats another anyway and turns red.

“Pinkalicious realizes she can’t live her life that way,” show actress and assistant director Taylor Feldman adds. “So, she starts to eat green vegetables as something new. She actually enjoys them, and turns back to her Pinkalicious self.” All is well until her brother eats the last of the pink cupcakes and he turns pink. As the story unfolds, Pinkalicious ultimately learns friendships can be bumpy, and sometimes too much of a good thing can be too much. There are endearing messages for parents as well.

“I think the most fun part of the show is seeing kids interacting with the characters. Some little girls come to the musical wearing pink tutus and tiaras, just like Pinkalicious,” says Feldman. “During a recent performance, one little boy sat on the floor in front of the stage because he was so excited and couldn’t contain himself.”

There’s a meet-and-greet session after every show when children in the audience can talk to all the cast members and take photos. “The meet-and-greet is a mad rush because the kids are so inspired. They believe the actors in the show are the real characters, so they come up to us with pictures they’ve drawn and things they want to tell us,” Feldman explains.

Continue the fun with a pink-filled day with colorful desserts and drinks at local restaurants after the show.
