Papa Joseph's Italian Restaurant is up and running in the former Manorville digs of Michelangelo.

The newly renovated dining spot/pizzeria/catering hall is owned by Joseph Passanante, whose son, also named Joseph Passanante, is chef.  Passanante previously cooked at Cafeteria in Manhattan. He described his repertoire as “traditional and more modern Italian” with dishes from both Northern and Southern Italy.

The restaurant is equipped with a wood-fired brick pizza oven as well as a conventional gas pizza oven. In the pizzeria section of the place, you’ll find both table and counter service. On that menu are a brick-oven 10-inch Margherita pizza ($12), a 16-inch Neapolitan cheese pizza ($14) a bistecca panino made with grilled steak ($10), linguine with clams ($15) and chicken piccata ($17)..

On the menu of the more formal dining room: burrata with roasted heirloom tomatoes ($13), seafood dumplings ($14), roasted beet salad ($11), house-made gnocchi with lamb ragu ($24), chicken Parmigiana ($19) and saffron-poached Chilean sea bass ($29).  And, yes, you can still order a pizza or panino in that part of the restaurant.

Among house-made desserts: Frangelico crème brûlée ($8), tiramisu ($7) and bread pudding ($7).

Papa Joseph's Italian Restaurant is at 457 County Rd. 111, 631-281-1616.
