Jairo Carrillo-Perez charged as 2nd driver in hit-and-run death of woman in Brentwood
Suffolk police have charged a second driver in connection with a Brentwood hit-and-run crash that killed a 41-year-old Sag Harbor woman.
Jairo Carrillo-Perez, 28, of Brentwood, allegedly kept driving after hitting Alison Pfefferkorn about 5:15 a.m. Monday. His was the second vehicle to strike her after she attempted to cross Wicks Road just north of Bradley Street, according to Suffolk police.
Pfefferkorn was first struck by a 2020 Toyota Highlander traveling south on Wicks Road. The Toyota's driver, Luis Vasquez, 59, of Brentwood, allegedly failed to stop, police said. As the victim lay injured on the road, a southbound 2004 Honda driven by Carrillo-Perez struck her, according to police.
Pfefferkorn was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore where she was pronounced dead, police said.
Carrillo-Perez faces a charge of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death, police said late Tuesday. He was scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip but information on the proceeding was not available Wednesday night.
On Monday, police filed the same charges against Vasquez. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Tuesday. His bail was set at $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond, court records show. Defense attorneys for both men could not be reached for comment late Wednesday.
The hit-and-run was one of three separate fatal crashes in Suffolk County in about a 15-hour span from Sunday to Monday morning.
