Port Jefferson cracks down on kayaks without permits

Port Jefferson authorities have begun a kayak crackdown.

The village board voted 4-0 on Friday to allow Parks Department workers to seize and impound kayaks left on racks at two village beaches without permits. Trustee Bruce Miller did not attend the meeting.

The policy went into effect immediately, Mayor Margot J. Garant said.

Cops: Woman stole lobsters from Hauppauge Shop Rite

Suffolk police seek the public's help in identifying

Suffolk police this week released a surveillance photo of a woman sought in connection with the theft of lobsters from Shop Rite in Hauppauge.

On June 29, at about 12:53 p.m., the woman entered the grocery store at 335 Nesconset Hwy. and placed $65 worth of lobsters in a reusable bag and left the store without paying.
