Latimer with slight lead in key Senate contest
A Democrat has a slight lead in a Hudson Valley contest that could help determine control of the state Senate.
Assemb. George Latimer (D-Rye) leads Republican Bob Cohen, 44 percent to 41 percent, according to a poll released Wednesday by Siena College. But the margin of error in the poll is plus or minus 4.7 percentage points, meaning the race is a toss-up with a month to go.
The district has been represented by Sen. Suzi Oppenheimer (D-Mamaroneck), who is retiring. She barely held off a Cohen challenge in 2010.
There are 18,000 more Democrats than Republicans in the district, but Cohen currently leads among independent voters, 43-34, Siena says.
Currently, Republicans hold a 33-29 advantage in the Senate.
