It’s been a rough week for Daniel Jones.

On Friday, the Giants held a meeting with free-agent quarterback Russell Wilson, who made a stop in New Jersey before moving on to a scheduled visit with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The visit with the Giants was described as “an exploratory meeting,” according to ESPN. The ESPN report included a photo of Wilson at Newark Airport.

The Broncos have given Wilson permission to seek a new employer before they officially release him when the 2024 NFL league year begins on Wednesday.

The Broncos hope Wilson finds a new employer. They are facing a huge dead-cap hit of $85 million but can save some money if the 35-year-old lands a new deal.

The Giants appear to be in the quarterback market, either through April’s draft or free agency, despite giving incumbent starter Jones a four-year, $160 million contract extension last March.

Jones, 26, made only six starts and finished the 2023-24 season on injured reserve with a torn right ACL. He is 22-36-1 as a starter since being drafted sixth overall in 2019 and led the Giants to only one playoff appearance in that span.

After the NFL Scouting Combine ended last weekend in Indianapolis, NFL Network reported that the Giants are “absolutely done” with Jones.

At the Combine, Giants general manager Joe Schoen said Jones has been at the Giants’ facility on a daily basis rehabbing his knee.
