No more Albany.
At least not this summer as the Giants, less than a week removed from the 2012 season, have announced plans to hold 2013’s training camp at their Timex Performance Center in the Meadowlands complex this summer. The Giants had trained at the University at Albany in 16 of the previous 17 seasons. The only time they did not during that span was in 2011 when the lockout forced...Read more »
Curtis Painter made a name for himself in 2009, when he made his NFL debut against the Jets in a game in which Peyton Manning rested. Painter played poorly, the Jets won and made it to the playoffs, and eventually the Colts beat the Jets in the AFC Championship Game with Painter planted firmly on the sideline.
He also started seven games for the Colts last year after both Manning and Kerry...Read more »
Michael Strahan has been retired from the Giants for five years, but his old team has one more assignment for him.
Jerry Reese said on Thursday that he would ask Strahan to speak with Jason Pierre-Paul about dealing with double-teams and other offensive strategies this offseason. The hope is that one of the franchise’s best defensive players of all time will be able to help mold another into...Read more »
Tom Coughlin was on the radio wrapping up the 2012 season today. He thought he should have been preparing for the playoffs.
“I can't even describe how it hurts," Coughlin said on WFAN of the disappointment of not making the postseason for the third time in the last four seasons. "I don't know what to do. I'm walking around here like a crazy man. I am. I don't know what to do with...Read more »
Victor Cruz said he was happy with the team’s performance against the Eagles on Sunday. It showed the kind of team the Giants should be.
“Unfortunately,” he said, “we couldn’t be that team when it mattered most.”
Both Cruz and Antrel Rolle, who was also on WFAN today, addressed that idea of being able to turn it on and off. While Rolle said he couldn’t say for sure that players on the...Read more »
Antrel Rolle is sorry.
That’s the message the Giants safety had as he punctuated the 2012 season with his final weekly appearance on WFAN on Wednesday. Rolle was asked for his parting thoughts on the season that ended Sunday with a 9-7 record but no playoff berth, and he took a repentant posture in answering the question.
“My final message would be … to apologize for a letdown,” Rolle...Read more »
Just about a month ago Victor Cruz said that the Redskins were “still a couple pieces away” from being contenders for “legitimate talks for playoffs and things like that.” That was in on Nov. 28, a few days before the Giants faced the Redskins, lost to them, and soon after lost control of the NFC East.
Now, Cruz seems to have a new perspective on the Redskins.
“They’ve got the upper...Read more »
Stevie Brown had his eighth interception of the season on Sunday, enough to earn him a second NFC Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Brown picked off Michael Vick (who hasn’t?) in the first quarter of the team’s 42-7 bludgeoning and returned it 48 yards to set up the Giants’ first touchdown. He also had six solo tackles in the game.
Brown was also the NFC DPOW after he had two interceptions...Read more »
What’s the difference between Lovie Smith and Tom Coughlin, other than the fact that one has a job right now and the other doesn’t? If you look at their regular-season records with their teams over the last nine years, not very much.
Both men were hired as head coaches by the Bears and Giants starting with the 2004 season, so they have a neat nine-year span to compare. Here are their regular-season...Read more »
Osi Umenyiora has spent the majority of his Giants career believing he was worth more than he was being paid. He’s about to find out if he was right.
“I've earned the right to be a free agent,” Umenyiora said on The Michael Kay Show on ESPN Radio in New York Monday evening. “It's been 10 years. I signed a seven-year deal and they made me play out all seven of those years. If they wanted me...Read more »
