T-Rock's Take on the Giants
Hakeem Nicks is no longer on the Giants’ roster, but he is on their preseason schedule.
The Colts, the team Nicks signed with as a free agent last month, will be the third of five preseason opponents the Giants face in 2014. In fact, Nicks won’t be the only familiar face the Giants see in the preseason. Besides their Hall of Fame Game opponent, the Bills, they will play the same four teams...Read more »
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Last year’s battle for backup quarterback ended in a draw as both Curtis Painter and Ryan Nassib made the roster. That left the Giants with three quarterbacks on the roster for the first time since 2007. This year, Tom Coughlin would like to have a winner in that competition.
And even though the Giants re-signed Painter, it’s clear that Nassib has the edge.
"I think...Read more »
ORLANDO -- It’s not just the roster that is being renovated this offseason. The Giants are also creating a new offense, and with about a month until players arrive for the start of the nine-week offseason program, the system has yet to be completed.
"We’re moving,” Tom Coughlin said of the playbook that he, new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo and the rest of the staff are working on. “I’d...Read more »
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Justin Tuck and Hakeem Nicks are no longer Giants, and the idea that the team let them sign elsewhere as free agents without much of a financial fight – and in the case of Nicks, not even an actual offer – would have been astounding just a year and a half ago.
Tom Coughlin spoke about both players at the NFC coaches breakfast on Wednesday morning at the NFL’s annual meetings.
First,...Read more »
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Giants co-owner John Mara recalled Ralph Wilson as "a true visionary and pioneer" and said the NFL is a better league because of people like the Bills owner, who died on Tuesday at the age of 95.
That’s not to say they always saw eye-to-eye.
Mara chuckled when going down the list of ventures and proposals made by the Giants over the years that Wilson voted against,...Read more »
ORLANDO, Fla. — Newly signed Giants offensive lineman John Jerry will not be suspended by the NFL for his role in the culture of bullying and harassment in the Dolphins’ locker room last season as detailed in the Wells Report, but he could be required to receive some sort of counseling or treatment.
Commissioner Roger Goodell said on Monday that the league and the NFL Players Association have...Read more »
Orlando – High five for the Giants!
Despite projecting for themselves a relatively low compensatory pick in the upcoming draft, the Giants were instead awarded with a fifth-rounder, the 174th overall selection. It was enough of a surprise for general manager Jerry Reese to quip to reporters at the NFL Annual Meeting that it was “the best thing that happened to us today.”
The addition...Read more »
ORLANDO – Just because Justin Tuck no longer plays for the team doesn’t mean he’s not a Giant.
At least that’s what the team’s co-owner said less than a week after the two-time Super Bowl winner and defensive captain signed with the Radiers.
“It’s not goodbye, I think, and this is me, I think it’s see you soon,” Steve Tisch said at the NFL’s League Meetings in Orlando. “You can’t separate...Read more »
In a perfect world the Giants wanted to sign a kick returner who could also play wide receiver. That was why they had interest in Jacoby Jones and Ted Ginn Jr. before they signed elsewhere. Well, the NFL is not a perfect world. And with the team still looking to upgrade its return game it agreed to terms late Saturday night with safety Quintin Demps.
Demps most recently played for the Chiefs...Read more »
The Giants are getting their own piece of the Boom.
They have agreed to terms with cornerback Walter Thurmond, who was most recently a part of the Seahawks’ Super Bowl-winning “Legion of Boom” secondary. The deal is reportedly a one-year contract.
Thurmond started three regular-season games plus the Super Bowl for the Seahawks, but he played in 15 of the team’s 19 games mostly covering...Read more »
