T-Rock's Take on the Giants
If you thought the Giants’ pre-draft talk about not needing a flashy new tight end from this year’s crop of incoming players was a smokescreen, well, the joke is on you. Because seven picks later, the Giants still have the same four largely unproven players at the position (although they do appear to be signing undrafted free agent Xavier Grimble from USC, the official announcement of which will...Read more »
Ten years ago he was the headliner of the Giants’ draft. This year, Eli Manning still had a strong impact on the decisions that were made. His physical status four weeks removed from ankle surgery and the urgency with which the Giants are giving him weapons to return to glory were two key matters this weekend.
First, the players that were added.
“We’re trying like heck,” Jerry Reese...Read more »
Tom Coughlin just survived his first draft with an NFL Network camera in the Giants’ war room. How did that go?
“There were a few more ties,” he said of the participants who wanted to look their best on television.
Some have speculated that such a breach of the Giants’ privacy was a step towards an appearance on the HBO series “Hard Knocks,” perhaps even this summer. The Giants are one...Read more »
The Giants have known who they were playing in 2014 for a long time now, since the 2013 season ended in fact. But they just learned when they’ll be playing them, and some of those dates came as a surprise.
For instance, the Giants will not play a home game in the division until Week 12 when they host the Cowboys on Nov. 23. They open with a non-divisional game for the first time since 2010...Read more »
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Last year’s battle for backup quarterback ended in a draw as both Curtis Painter and Ryan Nassib made the roster. That left the Giants with three quarterbacks on the roster for the first time since 2007. This year, Tom Coughlin would like to have a winner in that competition.
And even though the Giants re-signed Painter, it’s clear that Nassib has the edge.
"I think...Read more »
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Justin Tuck and Hakeem Nicks are no longer Giants, and the idea that the team let them sign elsewhere as free agents without much of a financial fight – and in the case of Nicks, not even an actual offer – would have been astounding just a year and a half ago.
Tom Coughlin spoke about both players at the NFC coaches breakfast on Wednesday morning at the NFL’s annual meetings.

INDIANAPOLIS – We’re here at the NFL Scouting Combine to talk about the future players, but inevitably when coaches come to the podium questions turn to the players already on the roster. Particularly the ones who are coming off of injuries or heading into free agency. So here’s a roundup of the current Giants that Tom Coughlin spoke about on Friday:
“We’re very confident...Read more »
INDIANAPOLIS -- New Giants offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo remains a man of mystery. He has yet to meet with the media since being named to his new position, so there are naturally lots of questions about what his schemes and play-calling will be like.
Since we can’t ask McAdoo, we’ll ask his boss.
“He, interestingly enough, does not describe himself as West Coast,” Tom Coughlin said,...Read more »
INDIANAPOLIS -- Tom Coughlin and John Mara have agreed on a contract extension, but they do not agree on how to describe the disappointing 2013 season.
In the days after the season ended with a 7-9 record, Mara, the team’s co-owner, described the offense as “broken.” Since then, the Giants have revamped their offensive coaching staff. Coordinator Kevin Gilbride retired and long-time assistants...Read more »
Craig Johnson was named the new running backs coach for the Giants, replacing long-time Tom Coughlin assistant Jerald Ingram, who was let go last week.
Johnson coached quarterbacks for the Vikings the last three years.
The only other current opening on the Giants staff remains tight ends coach. Mike Pope, who held that job with the Giants since 2000 before he was let go last week, was...Read more »
