T-Rock's Take on the Giants

Coughlin: "Losing, it kills you!"

You’d think that as Tom Coughlin gets older, losses like Sunday’s against the Eagles become easier to accept. More wisdom and perspective. More maturity. More of a life-goes-on philosophy.

Ha!

“It’s 10 times more difficult,” Coughlin said in his weekly interview with Giants.com. “Losing, it kills you.”

It doesn’t help that Coughlin has been beating himself up over some key decisions...

Ramses Barden (concussion) and Hakeem Nicks (knee/foot) leave Giants thin at WR

PHILADELPHIA, PA - SEPTEMBER 30: Wide receiver Ramses

The Giants practiced today with four healthy wide receivers on the active roster. Four. I suppose that’s all you really need at any given time anyway, but the dwindling numbers in that group must be a concern for a team that relies so much on the pass (by design or otherwise).

The latest injured receiver is Ramses Barden, who suffered a concussion late in the Eagles game. It was likely on...

Bradshaw Tweets like a man who could play this week

Ahmad Bradshaw may be returning to the field.

After a day at the Hospital for Special Surgery where Tom Coughlin said Bradshaw was being evaluated with other players with hopes for “that element that when they come back they’ve been cleared to go,” Bradshaw posted this comment on his Twitter account just a little while ago:

“Great news! Thanks everyone for ur thoughts and prayers. But...

Giants still think Michael Vick is dangerous, even if Eagles don't

Tom Coughlin declined to answer any Eagles questions on Monday, saying he would talk about the upcoming opponent on Wednesday. Perhaps he’s just waiting for them to name a starting quarterback.

The Giants returned to work from their weekend off to find that the Eagles are at least considering a change at quarterback. Andy Reid dropped a two-sentence bombshell on Monday when asked about the...

The Bottom Four: The wrong Cam, Barden's potential, refs help Nicks

It’s a short week, so we give a short list.

Normally, in the hours leading up to a game, we’ll provide a list of the Bottom Five Things to Look For. But if offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride can skirt his responsibilities to meet with the media and feel the heat from a game in which his unit compiled only 41 points and 610 yards, well, I can cut a few corners myself.

So here, then,...

Giants still steaming over kneel-down play

Eli Manning is knocked down as he took

Two days after the Bucs’ controversial decision to fire out at Eli Manning in an attempt to force a fumble despite an obvious kneel-down situation, the Giants were still steamed about the play.

Even though the move that was ordered by Bucs rookie head coach Greg Schiano, the former Rutgers coach, was not against the rules, some Giants players continued to take issue with the play.

“I...

Nicks sits, Beatty in limbo, and Wilson sticks his snout out from the doghouse

Hakeem Nicks was the only Giants player who was not in pads and not participating even a little bit in practice. That’s a point of concern. Remember last week when he missed a few practices but was at least walking around, jumping into some light drills and walk-through reps, and catching passes for the quarterbacks as they warmed up? Tom Coughlin said he looked “frisky” back then.

Well, his...

Coughlin eschews full sentences for sake of efficiency

Giants head coach Tom Coughlin watches his team

Tom Coughlin said last week that he would examine how efficient the Giants were with their time, limiting that evaluation not to practices but meetings and other aspects of preparation. Apparently that means he’s no longer speaking in full sentences.

Twice today Coughlin answered questions in his press conference not with well-thought-out sentences or the run-ons he sometimes uses, but with...

Last-place Giants somehow muster spunk to practice like champs

Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, center, looks on

The Giants seemed pretty upbeat. You know, for a last-place team.

As the only squad in the NFC East without a victory so far this season, you might expect them to be packing it in and planning for 2013. But no! They actually looked and sounded like a team that will fight through the rest of the season (or at the very least the rest of the month).

When last we left the Giants, Tom Coughlin...

Rob Ryan puts the F in football (and a few other words)

Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan waits for

Over the last year the Giants have managed to get the better of the Ryan Brothers. Whether it was beating the Cowboys twice last year to eliminate them from playoff contention or beating the Jets to essentially finish their season, the Giants have had the better of the matchups.

Last night, though, with Rob Ryan coordinating the Cowboys’ defense, a Ryan finally got a bit of the upper hand....
