With a weekend back-to-back upcoming and no extra forwards on the roster while Matt Rempe continues to serve his four-game suspension, the Rangers announced Friday they have recalled forward Adam Edstrom from AHL Hartford.

Edstrom had been sent down to Hartford last Friday after the Rangers traded for Jack Roslovic from Columbus that day. Sending Edstrom down left the Rangers with 13 forwards, one more than dress for a game. But after Rempe was suspended Tuesday for his elbow to Devils defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler on Monday, they had no spare forwards for the first two games of the current road trip, a win over Carolina on Tuesday and a loss on Thursday to Tampa Bay.

The road trip concludes Saturday in Pittsburgh against the Penguins, then Rangers return home Sunday for a St. Patrick’s Day matinee against the Islanders at Madison Square Garden.

Earlier in the day, the Rangers announced they had signed goaltender Hugo Ollas, 21, a seventh round draft pick in 2020 from Sweden who has played the past three seasons for Merrimack College.
