Costello's tells the hardware industry website Home Channel News that, with the new additions, the family's chain will have 18 stores.

"We feel that we have a market that can support independent stores," Mike Costello, the company president, said in an interview with Home Channel News. "And as we find the right locations, we just keep going for it."

Costello's Ace Hardware stores also carry Long Island-made tools, Newsday's Garden Detective, Jessica Damiano, wrote in December. The stores sell an innovative rake, Leaf Mate, that was invented in Huntington and is made in Hauppauge.
